The 73rd anniversary of the annexation of the Hatay province to the Turkish mainland has been commemorated with a 73 meter long kanafah. The gargantuan dessert made of 150 kilogrammes of cheese, 300 kilogrammes of shredded wheat , 75 kilogrammes of butter and 250 kilogrammes of sugar was given out to the people on the province's main Atatürk avenue.
The mayor of Antakya Lütfü Savaş made a speech on the occasion, in which he said that they marked the anniversary in jubilation. He said the length of the dessert last year was 72 meters as it was the 72th anniversary of Hatay's annexation to Anatolia, adding that the kanafah lengths would increase ecah year as the anniversaries did.
The mayor accompanied by Hatay's governor Mehmet Celaleddin Lekesiz poured syrup over the dessert and distributed it among the people.
