The UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon has lambasted both the Assad regime and the opposition.

Ban ki Moon made an assessment of the latest developments in Syria at the general assembly.

He said the Assad regime had been continuing to bomb the settlements indiscriminately and those held captive by both sides were subjected to maltreatment and torture, adding that the reports about the executions were at an alarming level.

He called on the international community to unite on a joint plan for a solution to the problem.

Lahdar Brahimi who also took the floor in his capacity as the special Syria envoy to have replaced Kofi Annan enlisted the international community's help to fulfill his task.

Syria's ambassador to the UN Bashar Caferi said his country is ready to exetnd every assistance to Brahimi to carry out his job.
